The Grants Accountant post-award grant administration and general accounting functions, including budget and expenses analysis, periodic invoicing, financial reporting, and communication with program staff, reconciliations, grant budget proposals, grant budget revisions, and performs grant closeout functions required by funders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Maintain the financial management of grants and contracts in accordance with government regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)and Thresholds Financial Policies and Procedures.
* Responsible for; monitor/track financial status of each grant through its program life cycle via expense trackers. Monitors grant expenditures and assures proper documentation is in place for grant expenditures. Analyze data in accounting, payroll and other systems to ensure accuracy and timely reporting under each grant.
* Responsible for generating grant-related reports, prepare grant-related schedules, and assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements
* Prepare grant-related journal entries, grant vouchers, and invoices. Monitors grant expenditures and assures proper documentation is in place for grant expenditures
* Prepare and maintain copies of all budgets and budget revisions
* Perform the cash management activities of requesting accurate and timely reimbursements from awarding agencies and following up on accounts receivable.
* Support OMB A-133 audit, annual financial audit, grantors' audits, and grantors' monitoring site visits, including preparation of schedules, checklists, providing supporting documents, and support program managers and staff with external audits.
* Communicate with funders and program management to resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
* Provide monthly reporting of budget to actual expenditures and remaining funds for all grants to program managers monthly; review key metrics with managers and ensure funds are managed on an ongoing basis
* Processes transactional accounting data for assigned areas of responsibility, which could include (but are not limited to), grants, cash management, fixed assets and payables.
* Prepares account reconciliations for assigned balance sheets and income statement accounts.
* Prepares journal entries and account analyses.
* Assists with monthly close procedures to provide management with timely financial results.
* Assists with year-end audit preparation.
* Distributes monthly financial statements.
* Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of the Agency's bank account reconciliations as assigned.
* Assist operating and program managers with financial inquiries, and provide guidance and counsel to these individuals as needed.
* Assist in the preparation of schedules, statements and backup paperwork and participation as needed in the annual audit.
MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provides support to the Senior Director, Grants.
* May be required to work a flexible schedule, including working onsite a Thresholds Chicagoland location.
EDUCATION
* Required - a Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting from an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE
* 1 - 3 years of experience with non-for profit grant accounting (preferred)
* Experience in non-for profit and/or healthcare preferred.
