Job/Internship Description
Responsibilities

Internship Objective and Summary:

Under the supervision of a Licensed Clinical Supervisor, the Therapist Intern provides individual and group psychotherapy services in-office to assigned clients.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Performing mental health assessments of referred clients: interviewing clients and significant individuals and collateral contacts.
  • Assessing clients' needs and developing appropriate goals for services.
  • Providing individual and group psychotherapy.
  • Participating in supervision, team meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Collaboration with other social service agencies, schools, hospitals, courts, probation, corrections, and public mental health organizations to make referrals or obtain case-related information.
  • Collaboration with caseworkers assigned to client or client's family to discuss progress of client and obtain case related information.
  • Maintaining supportive documentation of case file, including written reports, case-notes and other paperwork related to the case within established timeframes.
  • Learning new knowledge through participation in facility sponsored training and supervision.

Work Environment: This position requires direct contact with clients. CPI and physical intervention techniques with clients are required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Certification:

  • Working toward MSW or MA/MS in Human Services/ Psychology/Counseling
  • 0-2 years' experience providing therapy in a clinical or related setting

Special Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Is open and respectful of cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and is willing and competent to work with a diverse client population.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to special populations and ability to interface with the community
  • Culturally competent
  • Ability to learn and use crisis prevention and behavioral management techniques that may include restraining clients.
  • Understands trauma-informed practice
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and a part of a high functioning team.
  • Experience and ability to use computers for data entry, communication and report writing
