POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinic Nurse, under the supervision of the Outpatient Services Manager is responsible for the coordination and delivery of quality patient care management.   He/She shall perform nursing functions utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.   He/She shall perform nursing functions in accordance with the policies, procedures, and objectives of the Nursing Department.  Responsibilities encompass compliance with the Joint Commission standards, CMS, OSHA, IDPH and scope of practice.

LPN Position Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Understands and follows RCH’s Standards of Excellence document.  Greets all guests utilizing excellent guest relation techniques.
  • Maintains and respects all patient rights and cares for the patient in a dignified and compassionate manner.
  • Displays respect and dignity to patient family members, visitors and staff.
  • Accountable for own conduct and promotes good working relationships among staff and between other disciplines and departments.
  • Upholds hospital policies and maintains a code of confidentiality on all patient information.
  • Verifies the presence of a complete order for all medications or ancillary services deemed necessary by the Convenient Care provider.
  • Assesses physical, psychological, social, spiritual and educational needs of the patient and family specifically related to age, under the direction of the Convenient Care provider.
  • Completes medication reconciliation with every visit.
  • Documents patient assessments in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Document minor nursing procedures and ancillary services in the EHR.
  • Medication administration (i.e., oral, rectal, subcutaneous, and IM injections, under supervision of the Convenient Care Provider.  Document administration on the Medication Administration Record.
  • Performs CLIA waived testing as appropriate.  Document the procedure and the results in the EHR.  In addition, document the results on the Lab control sheets.
  • Continuously updates the EHR based on ongoing assessments.
  • Observes patients and reports information or changes in the patient’s condition to the Convenient Care provider.
  • Intervenes with appropriate techniques, procedures and safety precautions under the supervision of the Convenient Care provider.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities; nursing committees and other activities which promote the growth and development of nursing and/or patient care. 
  • Completes all mandatory education assigned by RCH and attends 80% of departmental meetings (in-person or virtual).
  • Maintains mandatory educational requirements based on TJC, IDPH, and OSHA, CMS and State regulations and standards.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions; trouble shooting malfunctions and reports problems and/or orders services needed.
  • Maintain supplies inventory by checking expiration dates and stock to determine inventory level; anticipate needed supplies, place order for supplies.
  • Maintain clean workspace.
  • Perform daily quality checks to refrigerators and testing equipment.  Keep logs up to date.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Must be a graduate of a state approved School of Nursing
  • Must have current Illinois license or certificate

Experience
  • Current BLS certification.  ACLS and PALS preferred.
  • Must show competency of those skills designated by the Manager of Outpatient Services
  • Must be in good physical and mental health, and able to work under pressure. 
  • Must have good teaching and communication skills.
  • The ability to operate designated computer equipment and clinic instruments.

Work Environment/Physical Demands           
  • Requires long periods of standing at times.
  • Requires quick movement, agility and fast response time.
  • Requires direct patient contact with potential exposure to blood and body fluids.
  • Frequent lifting and/or handling of light weight items. Capable of lifting up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to perform CPR – a strenuous activity.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinic Medical Assistant is responsible for assigned clerical duties and delegated clinical duties including obtaining vital signs, medication administration, CLIA waived testing, assisting with procedures, and documenting findings in patients’ medical records.  Communicates effectively with staff, providers, patients and families.

CMA Position Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for greeting patients appropriately and rooming patients.
  • Answers phone calls, documents patient messages and forwards information to the appropriate personnel. The MA does not provide medical advice or recommend treatment.
  • Documents clearly, concisely and accurately in the medical record.
  • Prepares the patient for medical examination by obtaining vital signs, height and weight; obtains pertinent patient history and reason for visit, and documents in the medical record.
  • Maintains/updates/reconciles the patient’s medical record, including allergies and medications, and enters in the medical record.
  • Prepares and maintains examination and treatment areas. 
  • Maintains medical supply inventory for clinic.
  • Prepares patient for and assists with routine and specialty examinations, and in-office procedures and minor office surgeries.
  • Assists with specimen collections and transports as needed to lab.
  • Perform CLIA-Waived testing: rapid strep, rapid influenza, urine pregnancy as ordered by Physician or APN.
  • Administer immunizations, injectable medications, oral medications or topical medications as ordered by the Physician or APN.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information regarding patients, families, and staff members; avoids discussion of related issues in public areas.
  • Follows infection control fundamentals related to: Standard Precautions, good hand washing, proper disposal of biohazardous materials, sterile or aseptic technique, disinfection of instruments/equipment, and preparation for sterilization.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement Activities.
  • Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal/state/local requirements and regulatory bodies.

The responsibilities listed above are not all-inclusive; other activities may be required in support of the hospital’s goals and objectives.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Licensure/Certification
  • Credentialed by one of the following: American Association of Medical assistants as a Certified Medical Assistant, National Health Career Association as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, and National Center for Competency Testing as a National Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Current BLS Certification.

Education
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program.

Experience
  • Previous medical office experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge and use of computer applications.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills required. Willingness to work as a part of the team is a must. 

Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Work is generally performed in patient care setting, tasks require clinical contact that could produce exposure to injuries (e.g., cuts, needle sticks) and exposure to blood, illnesses and contaminated, hazardous materials.
