Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. The Welder builds healthy communities through play and recreation by safely welding metal parts together using specified wire welding processes to produce high quality assemblies.
  2. Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers and ruler.
  3. Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
  4. Cut work piece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife.
  5. Melt lead bar, wire, or scrap to add lead to joint or to extrude melted scrap into reusable form.
  6. May install or repair equipment.
  7. Observe tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
  8. Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.
  9. Remove rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
  10. Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  11. Heat, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
  12. Ignite torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
  13. Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  14. Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
  15. Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
  16. Satisfy the required hours of the department.

Education and/or Experience

  • Requires a demonstrated working, hands-on knowledge and experience of welding.
  • The welding requirements may vary depending on the specific welding job being offered, this could include entry-level or higher level positions depending on the candidate working experience.
  • Higher level welder positions may require formal education in vocational, technical schools or colleges as well as welding certification or specialty certification such as robotic welding.
