ONLINE ED/LAB ED SPEC Job Opening at University of Illinois at Chicago in Chicago, IL

Under the direction of the Division Director, and working in collaboration with program directors and faculty, the Online Education and Laboratory Education (OELE) Specialist serves as the central resource for expertise and strategy for using distance learning technology to deliver graduate-level education, other degree, certificate, and continuing education programs offered by the Division. In addition, the LEOE Specialist will be responsible for maintaining teaching laboratories, including ordering, tracking, and overseeing the assembly and repair of laboratory supplies and equipment for air quality, water quality, environmental chemistry, and industrial hygiene laboratories. This position requires in-depth knowledge and expertise in the technological and pedagogical foundations of distance education, and involves a combination of strategic planning, research, analysis, consultation, and direct implementation
support.

This person will serve under the direction of the Division Director and will relate directly to
teaching and research faculty, to the laboratory manager, and to administrative managers in EOHS.

Responsibilities will include:

Independently stay abreast of distance learning developments within the SPH community, in the broader academic world, and in non-traditional learning environments; use judgment to bring updates and suggestions for innovation to the Division.

Serve as the Division liaison to the Office of the Dean, and represent the interests of the Division in decisions regarding acquisition and support of distance technology.

Develop and manage support mechanisms for online learning activities in the Division.

Consult with course instructors in the application of distance learning methods to course development and delivery.

Assist course instructors in using synchronous and asynchronous online teaching platforms, including setting up class sessions and troubleshooting problems that arise in the course of class sessions.

Assist students in downloading, accessing and submitting documents through online teaching software.

Assist other administrative staff in use of computer software and internet tools.

Organize, maintain, and troubleshoot problems with classroom technology for EOHS.

Represent EOHS on school-wide and campus-wide committees related to laboratories, classroom technology, and teaching tools.

Collaborate with faculty to develop an overall distance learning strategy for the Division.

Provide expertise in managing the purchasing and upkeep of laboratory equipment.

Masters degree with 3 years experience or bachelor's with 5 years experience in distance learning
technology and methodologies.. Experience with relevant web-based tools, and familiarity with the needs of teaching laboratories required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Additional training or expertise in core UIC SPH content areas (public health sciences) highly desirable.
