Under the direction of the Department Head and the Assistant to the Department Head the Business/Administrative Associate will perform general administrative functions in the Department of Neurosurgery.

  • Serves as liaison to the Hospital Medical Staff Office: processes physician privileging and credentialing packets following hospital and managed care guidelines. In addition, coordinates privileges for all physicians at all external hospitals;
  • Maintains clinician medical, controlled substance and DEA licenses
  • Performs departmental human resource functions including preparation and submittal of Promotion and Tenure applications, entering PEALEAV information for faculty and academic professionals, payroll entry, and other human resource duties as assigned
  • Prepares and submits annual Conflict of Interest Reports and Report of Non University Activities as mandated by the University
  • Acts as University P-Card and T-Card holder following OBFS policies and procedures
  • Develops and distributes marketing materials for new physicians and departmental events to internal and external parties
  • Assists billing and coding functions of the department to include preparation of charge tickets, entering data into database and run standard and ad hoc reports regarding billings and collections of the physicians clinical activities.
  • Provides support in managing the daily operations of the administrative office
  • Provides support in managing guests, external physicians, business vendors, internal parties, to the department
  • Manage Department Head's calendar, travel and administrative duties
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, management, or a field related to the position.
  • Two (2) years of professional level accounting, managerial and/or business experience, 1 year of which was at an administrative level
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced computer skills, knowledge of software systems
  • Knowledge of risk management best practices as related to health care provision in an academic setting
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word Access
  • Knowledge of UIC policies and procedures
