Description

This position will serve as the Assistant Residency Program Director and the Director of Osteopathic Education. The incumbent will be responsible for teaching, research, administration, and service activities as they relate to the Decatur Family Medicine Residency program and to the FQHC. This position will practice both outpatient and inpatient medicine.

Examples of Duties

I. Teaching 35%
1. Supervise resident physicians and medical students in patient care activities at the
Family Medicine site and other outpatient settings.
2. Conduct and supervise teaching rounds on hospitalized patients.
3. Participates in education conferences, seminars, and lectures for resident physicians and
medical students.
4. Supervises, observes, and evaluates resident physicians and other advanced students in
the Family Medicine Program.
5. Responsible for teaching and services activities as they relate to the Decatur Family
Medicine Residency program to enhance the quality of the residency program.
II. Service (Patient Care) 35%
1. Provide direct patient care to own patient panel.
2. Participate in the Family Medicine Faculty Inpatient call.
3. Serve on school-wide, departmental and community committees and requested.
4. Serve on residency program, community, and hospital committees, as assigned.
5. Participate in Center Peer Review and Quality Improvement activities.
6. Provide emergency services to patients as needed including those who are identified as
having no primary care physician.
7. Participants in internal or external professional organizations and/or committees as
delegated by the Residency Program Director, Medical Director, and FQHC.
III. Administration 25%
1. Serves as an Assistant Program Director for the Decatur Family Medicine Residency
Program by directing and administering clinical and educational activities related to the
program as delegated by the Residency Program and Medical Director.
2. Serve as the Director of Osteopathic Education. Responsible for osteopathic recognition
status through ACGME and serves as point of contact for the American Osteopathic
Association, Division of Postdoctoral Training and ATSU/KCOM Osteopathic
Postdoctoral Training Institution (National Center for Osteopathic Principles and Practice
Education).
3. Attend quarterly Departmental DO meetings.
4. Coordinate, attend, and assist as needed in osteopathic resident curricular activities
including but not limited to OMT clinics, DO journal clubs, and educational workshops.
5. Track, monitor and advise on Decatur DO scholarly activities.
6. Ensure resident documentation of osteopathic skills are maintained.
7. Conduct biannual meetings with each osteopathic recognition (OR) track resident, and
annual meetings with OR faculty as required by the ACGME.
IV. Research 5%
1. Devise and carry out research projects of their own design with assistance from other
faculty members.
2. Assist Residents and medical students in the development of research projects and will
help supervise their activities.

Qualifications

1. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
2. Must possess a DO degree.
3. Must have graduated from an accredited residency training program at time of hire.
4. Must be Board Certified in Family Medicine.
5. Must be licensed in the state of Illinois at time of hire.
6. Must be willing to practice inpatient medicine.
